Vertex Solutions is looking for an Instructional Designer to design, develop, and convert instructional materials for web-based training. This is a short-term (2-3 months), project-based job opportunity.
Location: Champaign/Urbana, IL area.
Duration: Short-term (2-3 months)

• Conduct Analysis:
o Assist with analysis activities to identify learner tasks and sub-tasks
o Select technologies and instructional strategies for different learning needs
o Identify deficiencies or gaps in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies
o Prepare a plan to meet the shortfall in knowledge, skills and attitudes, and competencies, to include measurable learning objectives
o Suggest appropriate sources and information needed to fill content gaps
o Conduct a media analysis to determine the most effective and efficient learning solution (e.g., WBT, blended, ILT, simulation, job aid, etc.)
• Support the Design of Course Content:
o Evaluate client-provided content and content aggregation
o Research content
o Review technical guidance and collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to extract technical instructional content to support learning objectives
o Develop course content at a level appropriate to defined objectives and target audience
o Develop high-level and detailed content outlines
o Develop storyboards to include designing learner interactions
o Enhance content through effective storytelling
o Collaborate with graphic designers, programmers, and quality assurance staff to deliver high quality products
• Provide instructional design expertise to each learning initiative:
o Develop an instructional strategy for different training or learning interventions based upon established learning objectives and learner needs, characteristics, and environment
o Develop course design documents
o Develop instructor and participant guide templates and materials
o Design case studies so learners are able to apply complex concepts
o Design job aids (if necessary)
o Design learning activities and assessments that are congruent with learner needs
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
• 3 – 7 years’ experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, English, Education, or similar discipline.
• Demonstrated experience with the ADDIE model
• Experience in the simultaneous management of several projects
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite products
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
• Master’s degree in Instructional Systems Design, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Instructional Technology, or related field.
• Experience working as a government consultant
• Experience designing branching scenarios
• Experience with one or more of the following
o Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Adobe Animate, Articulate Storyline, Lectora, etc.)
o Section 508 compliance and the necessary considerations when designing learning solutions with those requirements
o Learning Management Systems (LMSs), Learning Content Management Systems (LCMSs), or Talent Management Systems (TMSs)
o SCORM or xAPI
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
