Operations Manager - Engineering / Project Management

IST has an immediate need for an Operations Manager.  Reporting to the President, this is a great opportunity for a seasoned professional in the areas of automation and operations management.  Our Company is located in the northwest suburbs outside greater Chicagoland and provides state of the art automation and control solutions for industrial, manufacturing, and commercial applications.  Our core competencies include the design and fabrication of PLC and HMI panels, variable speed drives, pneumatic cabinets, operator consoles, and motor controls.  We are equipped with the right tools and technology to design custom solutions and build high-quality products to meet our client’s industrial automation needs.


  • Well-rounded operations professional to lead our automation group and UL panel shop
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and holds division P&L and budget responsibility
  • Develop effective marketing strategies and sales plans
  • Negotiate client terms and rates
  • Monitor and project performance and profitability
  • Review and adjust division policies, practices and procedures
  • Oversee all daily operations
  • Monitor procurement and resource scheduling and allocation
  • Manage and develop all team members
  • Lead sales and engineering efforts
  • Actively participate in recruiting
  • Take a leadership role in safety
  • Strive to meet divisional goals


  • BS degree or equivalent, an EE degree is a plus
  • 10-15 years of related automation experience with at least 5 years with an automation integrator
  • Solid skills in operation management
  • Superior verbal & written communications
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Proven sales skills with the ability to prospect, cold call, follow up, persist and make successful presentations
  • Assemble effective sales and marketing presentations
  • Effectively multi-task while simultaneously managing others toward multiple evolving priorities
  • Display a history of developing, nurturing and furthering positive client relationships that generate business
  • Possess a "can do" entrepreneurial spirit
